Who we are...

In the first chapter of the Gospel of John, two people approach Jesus to find out more about him. Jesus asks, “What are you looking for?” And then, he says, “Come and see!”

These words are the words I would use to introduce First Church to those who do not have a church home, those who are experiencing brokenness in their life and relationships, and/or those who want find a place that can meet their spiritual needs.

The people at First Church are warm and loving. They have a heart for helping other people. They put their faith in action by giving generously to those in need.

The people at First Church are also diverse in their background and work experience. The church is blessed with a balance of families with children and youth; professors and other employees from our area institutions of higher learning; college and medical students; and workers and retirees from many different professions.

As you read about us on this website, you will see that our ministries reflect this diversity. There are many ministry opportunities for the young and old and those in between.

A friend asked me a few months after I became pastor to describe First Church in one sentence. I said, “First Church is a Big Church with a Big Heart!” I consider us “Big” in the most positive sense of the word. We have multiple worship services, a variety of ministry opportunities, and we spend significant amounts of our time and financial resources each year to help others.

I will close by asking you the same question Jesus asked those who were checking him out: “What are you looking for in life?” I invite you to “come and see” what First Church has to offer. After you do so, I would be interested to know how you would describe us.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Richard
